Surf Alarm is operated by Motman Hodling, an eenmanszaak registered in the Netherlands.

Motman Hodling is the data controller for personal data processed through this app.
2. What data we collect
Account data
When you create an account, Clerk (our authentication provider) collects your email address and, if you sign in with Google or Apple, your name. We store a reference to your Clerk user ID in our database.
Alarm settings
We store the surf alarms you create: spot location, condition preferences (swell, wind, tide), time window, and alarm name.
Notification preferences
We store your preferred notification time and your Expo push notification token to deliver daily surf reports.
Onboarding data
We store your surf experience level, set during onboarding.
Subscription data
We store your trial status, trial end date, and whether you hold an active Pro subscription. Payment processing is handled by Apple or Google. We do not receive or store your payment details.
Referral data
If you use or share a referral code, we store the code, who redeemed it, and whether rewards were granted.
Analytics
We use PostHog to collect anonymised usage data: device type, operating system, and in-app events (for example, alarms created or paywall shown). We do not use session recording.
Location
The app requests location permission to center the map. Your location is not sent to or stored on our servers.

4. Third-party services
We share data with the following processors:

Each service is subject to its own privacy policy.
5. Data transfers outside the EU
Clerk, RevenueCat, and Expo are based in the United States. Transfers to these services are covered by Standard Contractual Clauses or other appropriate safeguards under GDPR Chapter V.
PostHog data is processed in the EU. MongoDB Atlas data is stored in the EU.
6. How long we keep your data
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your alarms, preferences, referral records, and subscription data. Clerk deletes your authentication data when we request it.
PostHog analytics data is retained according to PostHog's own retention policy and is not linked to your name or email.
7. Your rights
Under the GDPR (AVG), you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Restrict or object to processing
- Receive your data in a portable format

8. Children
You must be at least 16 years old to use Surf Alarm. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact info@motmanhodling.com and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the app or by email. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the most recent update.
